Struggling With My Mouth & Heart - 2013-06-19 04:42:49-04
When I was in high school, our youth group went to Colorado every summer to get Star Ranch ready for summer campers. My last year, I was asked to share a verse at a church service. At the time, God was teaching me to watch my words, so I shared Psalm 19:14.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
Those verses had a huge impact for me to still remember them from my youth group trip.
You would think 40 years later, I’d have a better handle on what I say. Nope, I’m still dealing with my tongue. I pray to not complain, but be thankful. I live by the Holy Spirit for awhile, but my sin nature peeks its ugly head and I’m back to complaining.
I don’t think before talking, I say whatever is on my mind. It hurts those I love.
Why am I sharing this? It has nothing to do with homeschooling?
For selfish reasons!
First off, I may not be the only one who struggles with sins of the tongue or sins of pride.
Next, I’m sharing this with you so I can make it public – so I can overcome the sins of my tongue.
I’m also sharing on my blog because it will humble me. You see, pride is my other sin of choice.
I “know” I’m always right.
I don’t always listen to others.
I defend my position at any cost.
Do you ever think like that?
My thoughts are proud and I need the Holy Spirit’s power to overcome pride, as well. Hopefully, sharing on my blog will squelch some of my pride.
I love Psalm 19:14 because it addresses both of my weaknesses – sins of my mouth & sins of my heart. I memorized this many years ago, but am plastering it around the house (kitchen sink, bathroom mirror, computer desk, where else can I place it) to cement it into my head & heart.
God used it 40 years ago; I know He will use it now. He is faithful!

Question: What verse do you claim to overcome your sins? You can leave a comment by clicking here.
