St Patricks Day Recipes – Irish Soda Bread {Monday Meals} - 2014-03-17 11:00:00-04
A few weeks ago, I tried a new bread recipe. I thought Irish Soda Bread would be one of a few St Patricks Day recipes to share with you.
If I made this again, I would cook it about 5 minutes less. It wasn’t dry, but I’d like it to be a bit moist. I made this change in the recipe below.
Slice & serve warm
Add Irish stew and you have an authentic Irish meal.

Question: Are you making any special St Patricks Day recipes this year? You can leave a comment by clicking here.
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 2 cups buttermilk (sub: add 2 tsp vinegar to 2% milk)
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions
- Combine all dry ingredients
- Stir egg into buttermilk
- Make well of dry ingredients. Pour milk mixture and stir just until moistened
- Stir in melted butter
- Pour into sprayed (or floured) loaf pan
- Bake 325
- Start checking for doneness around 50 minutes by inserting toothpick into center until it comes out clean.
- I wouldn't bake more than 60-65 minutes.
